Temporary Assistance

The Department of Social Services offers temporary help for needy men, women and children. If you are unable to work, can't find a job or your job does not pay enough to meet your basic living expenses you may be eligible to receive help. Erie County has a Work First policy that focuses on the temporary nature of cash assistance and an individual's responsibility to achieve self-sufficiency.

Erie County Reentry Coalition

The Erie County Reentry Coalition seeks to strengthen support services that will assist individuals with prior experience in the criminal justice system succeed and become integral members of our thriving greater Buffalo region. Our membership of over fifty public agencies and community partners work together to better coordinate care and to offer such services as employment readiness and placement, education, housing, and family engagement. We welcome all individuals in our community to join us in our work and to attend our open quarterly meetings.

Erie County Reentry Task Force

Reentry Services are designed to help individuals that are released from jails and prisons to acquire resources  that they need to be successful in the community. Some examples of re-entry services are: assistance with acquiring identification, housing, employment, physical and behavioral health, legal assistance, etc.  In collaboration with multiple providers in Erie County, we work to make re-entry more cohesive for our consumers and community members.

Erie County Corrections Specialist Advisory Board

The purpose of the Erie County Correction Specialist Advisory Board-ECCS Advisory Board is to provide advice to, and oversight over the Erie County Sheriff Office’s Jail Management Division which administers the Erie County Holding Center and the Erie County Correctional Facility. 

 

Meetings are held monthly in the Committee Room of the Legislature - 92 Franklin Street, 4th floor Buffalo, NY.  Due to circumstances surrounding COVID, meetings have been held virtually via ZOOM.

The Transitional Services Division provides library services to the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden and to the Erie County Holding Center in downtown Buffalo.
